12.30 pm: 1.6 km Recovery Run @ ˜70% + Mobility WOD #35 & #36
Actually my body doesn’t feel as destroyed as I expected today. Still sore in neck and back but, as said way less then one would think. Still gonna have at least 3 days of only light running and mobility work to recover.
However if I wanna get better I can’t just sit on my ass like below and do nothing. Planning my training towards the Swedish Nationals in mid November I’m gonna have the following goals:
- Clean & Jerk: 110 kg
- Snatch: 80 kg
- 500m Row: sub 1:30 min
My training will be more and more tuned in to give me a higher work capacity and to bring my deadlifting back into play. I will focus on technique work in the oly’s since I think I already have these weights within me and then the heavy work will be a lot of deads and OHS. Also I will incorporate more outdoor running sessions and rowing whenever at CFN. Oh, and even if I do like the Ogre Look above I think it’s time to become one rahter then looking like one, so it might finally be time to cut that hair after almost an entire year of letting it grow..?

Namaste!

There are too many comments about weight lifting on this blog, what the heck?
Let’s talk about what’s really important … how short are you going to cut your hair?
Haha, comment of the month!
Well, my goal was to go for the Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder-kind of look, and I did. Now it’s just fcking long and impossible to do anything with.
Haven’t decided yet but either really short or something like Charlie Sheen in 2 & 1/2 men. I like bowling shirts, kakis and girls so why not..
*Month?* If only I had gone for Google Translate like Roland a few months ago I probably would have won comment of the year ….
By the by, the sloppiest workout I have ever had by far came the day after some deadlifts and I was so sore that my form was just awful and Roland yelled at me. Moral of the story? I agree with you about scheduling rest days after heavy back days. So, there is my obligatory weightlifting comment…
Haha, true but that one is probably unbeatable just because of the translation thing!
I like the big numbers of WODs u have in your study saying that was the cause..
But srsly, yes I actually do think it is very clever to do so. Deadlifts for instance stresses the CNS harder than a lot of other excercises…
Sounds healthy, will look into it! I like the resting after heavy back day cause that is for sure something that slows the next day down.. Cya in a couple of days at CFN!
Roland: Agree but the Chinese do a lot of DLs and their weight lifting skills are ummm nice
Cathletics do this in four week periods. However to improve the back they use stiff legged dl’s, reverse hyper extensions and back extension. Good mornings as well if you respond good to them, I do not.
Heavy Dls is all about getting your mind to accept that your body can cope with the enormous stress DLs put on your body.
Therefor I suggest that instead of doing something like 5×5 @ 80-85% just quickly build up to a heavy lift but perhaps not 1RM via 6-7 lifts.
I avoid DLs these days and instead do Back Squats. More bang for the buck for me.
But! Yes make your body and mind comfortable with heavy lifting but use other methods for building your back.
My cents, do not listen to me
Sounds pretty smart m8! I wont follow a cathletics-programme right now, maybe ever, since Im not really that interested in such a big focus at olympic lifting. Still want them to increase, but work capacity is much more important for me.
However your point at instead of killing my self with really taxing 5 by 5 work in the deads, I will look into what u are saying about heavy lifts!
Regarding cathletics: Just used them as reference. Think you can read about Greg E’s thoughts about all this in a free performance menu article in the right side bar on the site.
They do something like this.
Week 1-4 rdl increasing load
Next week 1-4 use back extensions with increasing load.
Always a rest day after heavy back work since your lifts will be less effective.
I do the cathletics with modifications. Something like ummm I need to improve the Jerk, what weights should I use, aha they use these weights this week. So I do not get the benefits of the full cycle but the benefit of not having to program entirely on my own.
Cheers!
I think you did good my friend! See you at SM if not before!?
Thanks! SM for sure, probably earlier as well at CFN some days. I might just jump in there and do a class as well for the fun of it, so we can try to do one together!
Sounds great. By the way, I think you should try my hair cut! : )
Haha, trust me, the thought has crossed my mind…
Deadlifting does not relate to olympic lifting very well (if at all).
I know, but considering the fact that I haven’t done it at all this year kind of, don’t u think too that I should have a period just to get stronger in my back area (now that it can handle it)?
I don’t think it would be negative for my oly even if it doesnt help it either? Or would you suggest I stick to snatchgrip deads, cleanpulls etc?
