Just saw this Leonardo di Caprio-produced movie about how our way of life is destroying the very own planet that provides us with everything making human life possible…
The tragedy is the potential extinction of human life…
Liked it a lot. Not only does it promote a change in the modern human’s way of consuming and wasting just about every resource we can due to the economy currently running our society. But also, some of the narrators is identifying the problem as that within our self. How we human threat this earth is basicly a reflection on how we feel inside.
Not that it’s something I chose to talk about in general, probably cause I don’t know enough about it yet, but it’s actually something that I read and philosophize about alot…
Right now I’m re-reading my favourite book on human awareness, A New Earth, by Eckhart Tolle. I like it because it kind of points out the human ego as the reason to most of the actions that we humans do and for me it gave me many “aha-moments” when I could recognize so many patterns in not only my own, but also in other peoples behaviour.
After the movie I surfed in to www.11thhouraction.com and found a well written post by Al Gore about the Oil Catastrophe going on right now in the Gulf of Mexico, and in relevance to other things we pollute this world with every day. Pretty interesting if you ask me!
“People need to relize there are things they can do in their everyday life,
everybody making a change adds up to something meaningful.”
By the way, did I say that rest periods are killing me? Only been resting for one day now and already I’m bored to death…
Namaste!
I will have to follow your links and recommendation on this one.
I “overheard” something a few weeks back that really got my attention on the points you are making. The fact that I actually ‘overheard’ something is fairly astonishing in itself as I usually can barely hear even when I am paying close attention to the speaker, so I was obviously meant to “hear” this little message.
I was assisting in a Consciousness Coaching workshop titled the Awareness Process for 52 South African teachers. Through the workshop they were starting to become aware of how to tap in to the power of their consciousness etc etc and of course being teachers they wanted to take this information and skills to their students and also completely revamp the education system. The teachers were getting grand ideas of revamping all of South African education, starting at the top. One of the facilitators of the workshop was discussing this “fix the system” approach with one of the newly awakened teachers (and lord knows, no one is so gung-ho as the person who is newly converted!) and he offered up to her the idea that maybe the “school system is perfect just as it is” but as she embodies her new awareness and starts to change her own behavior, raise her own awareness, learn to tap in to her own consciousness on a regular basis, that by “becoming the change” (hate to use trite phrases but it applies here) she will start to be that teacher that empowers her students and that in this way her actions are actually more useful and achievable then trying to take on the Dept. of Education.
I found this really interesting as I can tend toward the Crusader dynamic myself, out to the change the world, “I know best” etc. But so much more manageable and achievable (though just as HARD) to change yourself, raise your own awareness and let those ripples flow where they may.
So incredibly true!
That’s like excactly what I’ve come to relize as well, you can’t change people, things or society by telling them how or what to do. You can only be as “aware” as u possibly can in every moment and that itself will start changing your environment.
For someone who don’t know this it sounds like mambo jambo, but it works for me anyway.
Also, that’s where being a good listener comes in, which has nothing to do with hearing…
